SDF may be used in certain circumstances as a non-restorative / non-invasive management technique for the slowing down of progression of small cavities. SDF is painted on cavity-affected areas of the teeth in a quick and painless procedure. After application, the treated teeth is permanently stained black and may need to be re-applied every few months.
